U10 Mandatory UAAs

Sep. 07, 2022

Hello Ringette Parents!!

You are receiving this email, as your child is part of Cochrane Ringette U10's.

My name is Maria Crutchfield and I am running the UAAs (Universal Athletic Assessments) on behalf of Cochrane Ringette this year.  For those of you new to ringette this year, UAAs are a series of skill related tests required by Ringette Alberta to ensure your child is placed on a team and division with like-skilled players.

We will be holding an OPTIONAL intro/practice skate for U10s on Friday September 9th from 6-7pm at Cochrane Arena.

This will be a practice UAA skate to get skaters comfortable with the drills that will be expected of them at the official UAA skate.

UAAs can feel intimidating to some girls and we want to ease any concerns the girls may have.  This is not mandatory but strongly encouraged, especially for players who’ve not done UAAs before!

See this YouTube video posted on Ringette Alberta’s website about UAAs and share with your players so they know what to expect and hopefully it will get them excited for this first Ringette event of the year!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEW0SsOjDCw

U10 OFFICIAL UAAs will be split into two groups.  UAAs are MANDATORY for all players and without completing the skate your child will receive a score of 0.  The association faces “punitive” action from the league if UAAs aren’t completed by all players, potentially pushing teams to have to play in higher divisions than they should, if the UAAs are not completed.  The league is avoiding “sandbagging” by teams wanting to win lower divisions; therefore all players must complete UAAs.  Please ensure you arrive at the arena 30 minutes before your ice time and are ready to go in full gear 15 minutes ahead of schedule.  Group UAA's are as follows (participants are listed below):

Group 1: Totem 3 Saturday September 10 9:15-10:15am

Group 2: Totem 3 Saturday September 10 10:30-11:30am

I will be looking for volunteers to be on the ice on the Friday practice and Saturday for the timed skills.  Volunteers do not need to be strong skaters, just need to be on the ice to assist in documenting scores. Helmets are mandatory.  All other equipment will be provided.  Please see attached link to sign up for either (or both) times.  If you have any trouble with the document just shoot me an email. Thanks in advance for signing up! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rDYSlQ6wwSGY25laJem2LEWNVI3q_Tjbg4klwZ0ZtMU/edit?usp=sharing

If you do not see your athlete's name on this list, please contact me immediately!

If you have any questions on any of the above information, please feel free to contact me by email.

Thank you,

Maria Crutchfield
