Hello Ringette Families,

We would like to invite you to help celebrate our Volunteer of the year.  On Friday, April 7th, 2017 Sport 4 Life Cochrane will be hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Night in honour of Cochrane’s extraordinary volunteers who have contributed to the well being of our community through sport and recreation. Cochrane Ringette has put forward longstanding dedicated volunteer Joyce Pearson.

The event is being held at Frank Wills Hall and tickets are $10, however the first 10 people from our amazing coaches that are interested in attending this full bar event can go free. Just let us know ASAP by contacting Jill Novak jjnovak@shaw.ca

Joyce Pearson: Cochrane Ringette Volunteer of the Year 2017

As far back as 2009 (we think, possibly earlier), Joyce has been volunteering her time and talents to our organization. As a past Ringette player she brings experience and knowledge to the organization that not many can offer. In addition to her past years as a player she has endeavored to complete the CI Coaching certification that is required for A level teams.  We are a growing organization, with more teams reaching that A level every year. Having Joyce a part of our Coaching roster plays a role in our ability to introduce these A level teams and have great women role models on the bench, in this female sport.

On top of being in some sort of coaching position almost every year since her girls have played, she has also played essential roles on organizational committees, and at a Board Level. One of Joyce's strongest beliefs is to ensure that every athlete, coach, team and family receives equal opportunity under the Cochrane ringette umbrella.  She makes sure that each athlete is treated fairly and equally, no matter what age or skill level they play.  In her role as Registrar (ensuring each player makes it onto the right team, is signed up with Ringette Alberta, covered under our insurance, etc.) she has likely dealt with more questions about how to register players than we can count but she has handled every situation presented to her with grace and kindness.

Most recently she has held the position of Board Secretary, keeping us up to date and on track with meetings & minutes, but also writing and rewriting policy, updating bylaws, ensuring that we are keeping up with changes in the game that are happening at a Provincial level. She takes time to educate herself on policies and is always well spoken and thoughtful when asked her opinion on a matter.  She is thorough and detail oriented and has the big picture in her mind at all times. She brings a level voice of reason to a sometimes-raucous board meeting, and can be relied on to follow up with everything she agrees to.  It is often someone like Joyce who may not be the loudest voice in the room but is often the most educated and knowledgeable on the subject, and it is a voice like this that keeps organizations progressive, strong, focused and accountable. Joyce is a valuable asset to our organization and Ringette Family.  We are thrilled to have her as our 2017 Volunteer of the Year.
